When plane spotting what is better?

when you go plane spotting at the airport and the planes are flying right over you what is better. to see planes landing or taking off? i was pearson airport in toronto at the wendys parking lot and the planes were taking off that day and it was cool but i havent had a chance to see planes land over me. i think there much lower when there landing so do you think that would be cooler to see?|||Yes I agree it is much better to see the aircraft when they are landing. They are going much slower and are a lot lower then on takeoff.|||I'd rather watch them land. They're flying much lower.

Try the same spot on different days. They change runway direction all the time, depending on the wind.|||If you're standing near the approach end of the runway during landing, the airplanes will likely be closer to you than if you are at the departure end. All of the aircraft will be shooting for the same touchdown zone fairly near the threshold. On takeoff however, some aircraft may have very short ground runs and could be a couple thousand feet overhead by the time they reach you at the departure end of the runway. Have fun.|||Landing.

They are lower, slower, and have more stuff hanging out.|||Yeah, landing. Slower speeds and all will be at about the same altitude. As mentioned, some will be airborn sooner on takeoff and will be higher at the departure end of the runway. And, it will also be a lot quieter; most aircraft are at idle or near that on landing as opposed to full throttle at takeoff. I like airplane noise but 95-110 db of jet noise can rattle your eardrums pretty good.|||Landing and take offs are the same thing. On take offs, I like to hear the engines revving up and speeding up. On landing, I like to see the wheels burn rubber.|||I like the take offs because if you're in the right place you get to see and hear the aircraft on the ground stationary and hear the engines spooling up. It's exhilarating. I can recommend this web site that has a lot of videos of both take off and landings as well as passenger views that show the slats, flaps and spoilers going through their paces.

Watch as these GE90s suck in 2 million cubic feet per minute. Man what power!
