What are the chances that a plane will fall into the ocean?

My husband, my 1 year old daughter and I want to visit Paris Next year, but since now I have a child, I'm so scared that the plane can fall and crash into the ocean...

What are the chances of this and how often does it occur?|||It's a 1000 times more likely you will be killed in a car crash on the way to the airport than you will be killed in an aircraft crash.

Stop worrying and take the train to the airport. That's safer than driving.

However statistics show that you are far more likely to have a fatal car crash than have a fatal airplane crash. Most people will continue driving annd riding in a car despite the dangers. You have a lot better chance of making it alive to Paris than taking a road trip for yur vacation.|||You have a better chance at winning the lottery.Aircraft have many back-up systems. There is less traffic over the ocean so you are safer there.I went to Spain last May for a cruise from Tampa-NY-Barcelona.They flew North east so if an emergency came up they could land in Canada,Greenland,England....If the plane has 2 engines there is a lawful distance from land they must maintain if one engine stops. They can and will fly on one engine for that predetermined distance.

If you think you might be too upset, go to your Doctor. He will give you something to stay calm.|||Aviation is an industry like no other. SOOOO much time money and effort goes in to ensure the safety of flying. There is a back up to everything that could go wrong, and even a back up to that back up. Should the initial thing go wrong. Like people have said. You will win the lottery before you crash in a plane.|||Pretty darned small. As an example, British Airways has an accident rate of 0.32 per million flights, United's rate is 0.5 per million flights. The last BA fatality was in 1985 and for United was in 2001. Those statistics cover 24.5 million flights. You are in vastly more danger from staying at home, household accident rates are much worse, than from flying. What ever you do stay away from cars, and don't even think about touching a motorcycle, much less a horse. In Britain horses kill teen age girls about 14 times faster than motorcycles kill teen age boys.|||Don't be dumb. Besides, do you really think airlines employ people who can't fly planes. You know when planes are made they do safety checks. And before takeoff they do BEFORE FLIGHT CHECKS. I doubt they'll switch off power in mid flight do you? Air travel is safe.|||Air travel is still the safest way to fly. 9/11 ruined that which is unfortunate.|||It's not likely at all. Just don't get on and Airbus plane, then you're safe.
