How can i start a private plane business?

I am a senior in high school right now and i wanna be a pilot and go to college and major in that. But my parents think i should major in something else first so i was thinking of business. Then i got to thinking why not put the two together and create a private plane business. I just need some guide lines so can have an idea on the future of this. Thanks|||In my opinion, if you plan to start and run your own business, you don't need a college degree to do it. All you need is the knowledge and persistence needed to learn what you need to learn and accomplish what you wish to accomplish.

A college degree is for employee types of people who wish to prove to a prospective employer that they have a certain amount of either basic knowledge and/or persistence and/or responsibility. Or to qualify for a position that requires a college degree as a prerequisite.

A college degree is basically a foot in the door. You don't need a college degree to start and run your own company. No government filing to create a company will ever ask you whether or not you have a college degree. A college degree does give a guy a certain amount of confidence that he may not have otherwise. Do you feel you want and need that?

Flying a plane, of course, will require you to have graduated from a certain amount of flight schooling and time in the sky flying with a registered trainer at your side.

Sorry. I suspect your parents won't like my advice if they're big on you getting a degree, but it all depends on what you wish to accomplish, bottom line. I see getting a degree you don't need to attain your goals as a waste of time and money, unless you're big on having backup in case your business fails and plan on becoming an employee, if that happens.

If you want to go to college for a business degree, just to have it for yourself, go ahead. I think business is a good major and make sure you take as many courses as possible that support your goals after taking all the school's basic course requirements.

What would I suggest as your first book to get you thinking about what's needed to get your plane business up and running? "Bankable Business Plans" by Edward G. Rogoff. A great book that should definitely get you thinking in the right direction as to what you'll need to start just about any business on the right foot. And how to research most of the info you'll need to get it done.

Good luck, Chandler. :-)
