How do I go about learning to fly a plane?

How much does it cost to get your pilot's licence?

What are the steps involved? How many classes? How long?

How much does it cost to rent a plane? What else do you need besides your licence to do this?

Does it cost to land or take off in an airport? Can you take off and land in major airports or do they need to be private airports? What else do you need besides your licence to do this?

How much does it cost to store your rented airplane in the destination airport?

Say you go somewhere for a week, are you paying to have the plane out that whole week?|||If you got to ask about the cost, you can't afford it!

Really--we're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars for lessons, airport fees, hangar fees, etc. etc. etc.

Also, you'd need to get additional training if you wanted to be a licensed pilot for more than small aircraft--say, if you wanted to fly commercial charters or cargo or passenger.

Most people get into flying by enlisting in the air force, navy, or marines. Then you earn money while training! Air force people who specialize in the big cargo planes and troop carriers transition easily to commercial passenger work--which is not as great as it used to be since the execs at Delta and other badly-run airlines have sucked up all the profits--but still nice work if you like to fly.
