What is the worse that can happen flying on a plane through a lighting storm?

My flight takes off next week from Atlanta to Miami then from Miami to Bogota, Colombia. I've looked at the weather forecast of Atlanta and Miami and they are both going to have lightning storms. Could anything happen to the plane if they fly through the storm? I heard a bout the plane that flew from France to Brazil and disappeared some where in the ocean. What are the chances of something happening to a plane that flies through a storm?|||Nobody flies through storms. An airliner that flies through a storm may be destroyed by the very strong winds inside storm clouds (sometimes vertical winds of 100 mph or more). Airliners fly around storms, not through them.

Turbulence is simply air movement. As a plane flies along at high speed, it moves from one mass of air to another. When it moves between two air masses that are moving in different directions or at different speeds (wind differences, in other words), the airplane moves as it goes from one mass to another鈥攁nd this is turbulence.

Turbulence in an airplane is very similar to what you feel in a car when it is driving fast over a hilly or curvy road. Because airplanes fly a lot faster than cars drive, the movements in the airplane are more rapid, so it can feel more bouncy than a car. It's harmless, though.

Most long-haul flights encounter some degree of turbulence at some point. Nearby clouds can cause it. Mountains can cause it. Sometimes it even happens in completely empty skies, usually because of upper-altitude air currents that rub against each other and swirl around a bit where they touch (when the airplane goes through that, it bounces around a bit briefly).|||a little turbulence but you'll be fine.|||Don't worry when lightning hits a plane it goes down the belly and exits at the lowest point, the only worry you have is the wind, oh and geese, thats all!|||I am sure that you will be fine!

I flew through a lightning storm to Florida, and it was a little bumpy (and a little scary) but nothing bad happened!
