How Much Can A Propeller Plane Hold?

What is the average maximum weight that a propeller plane can hold as cargo and still fly?|||For the military the Hercules can haul 72,000 pounds.

In the civilian world the super guppy 54,500 pounds.|||"Propeller planes" range in size from single-person sport planes that can essentially carry nothing but the pilot and a few gallons of fuel up through heavy cargo aircraft that can carry more than a hundred thousand pounds of cargo.

Most 4-engine propeller driven cargo planes carry around 45,000 to 50,000 pounds of payload. The C-118 I used to fly had a payload of 47,000 pounds.

If the Cessna 172 is a "typical" single engine airplane, the useful load is about 750 pounds, which translates to a pilot and one passenger, a couple of suitcases, and full tanks of fuel.

So it's up to you. You have to tell us what kind of airplane you have in mind.|||There's a wide-range of aircraft that fits your description. A cessna 150 (trainer), a single-engine propeller plane has a useful load (that's people, cargo and fuel) of around 500lbs. I have no idea if this is the LEAST amount of weight for a single-engine propeller plane; there are so many out there, I'm just grabbing a popular one as an example. One of the largest propeller planes is the C-130 military cargo aircraft, which has a useful load of 72,000lbs.|||Look up the cargo capacities of DC-6, B-29, C-130, TU-95 for some representative numbers.|||It can carry right up up it's maximum weight rating in passengers, fuel, cargo, etc. That rating varies with the size of the airplane.|||really comes down to the engine size a the bomb bay as i like to call it.|||Depends on the size of the plane, obviously.

That's like asking how many people can fit in a car....
