What side of the plane gives you the best views when landing in Athens?

I know this is a really geeky question, but I've only ever landing in Athens at night, when there isn't anything to see. This time I'm arriving at midday, and I'm wondering if you can see the ancient centre from the plane just before it lands (Acropolis, Agora etc) and if so what side of the plane do you see it.

And if you can't see the ancient centre, what is the side of the plane that gives the best views on the final approach?|||You will not be able to see anything, anyway, either side you seat on the plane because the airport is too far away from all those places you say.

There are two lines of approach from European destinations. The one coming down the west side of Greece starting flying over Corfu, Aktion, Agrinion, Patras,Tripolis, Athens tower controls. That is the S- SE approach

The other is over Thessaloniki, Larissa, Volos, Tanagra air control towers. That is the N- NE approach.

If the plane arrives from south- SE and circles over Aegina you might get a far glimpse on the port side of the plane if the atmospere is clear. But that is very unlikely most of the times.

On the North approach there is not such possibility.|||I saw the Acropolis once and think I was on the right side of the plane....by the window :)|||I've been to Athens many many times by plane coming from the States so I can answer this for you!

The best view is obviously from a window seat. You can actually see a lot of stuff when you approach the city and sometimes when you first fly over Greece.

You probably won't be able to make anything out, like the Acropolis or the Plaka, it's just too hard to narrow it down.

So, you can just look around..and it's amazing. Great view..and it looks so peaceful and beautiful..I love it soo much :) Blue waters, Open skies....|||Athens is ruined in riots. Burned in fires. Nothing to see.|||The rear.
